Rheem XG40T09HE40U0 Review

Performance

Hot water for four. The Rheem XG40T09HE40U0 is rated to provide up enough hot water to meet the needs of moderately sized families of up to four people. The controls are easy to use, and while this isn't the most technologically advanced hot water heater you can buy, it's economically priced and has proved to be reliable. The low nitrogen-oxide (LNOx) burner doesn't meet the strictest standards in place in some parts of California, but still reduces emissions. For those who live at higher elevations, the Rheem XG40T09HE40U0 gas water heater is certified for installation up to 10,100 feet. The electronic ignition does away with the need for a pilot light, improving safety and cutting gas use. User reviews are highly positive, and owners largely agree that the Rheem XG40T09HE40U0 delivers every bit of the hot water it promises. For larger households (of up to five people), the 50-gallon Rheem XG50T09HE40U0 Performance Plus 50 Gal. Tall Water Heater (Est. $590) is similar, and similarly well liked.

Efficiency

Sufficient efficiency. This 40-gallon gas hot water heater isn't the most energy efficient model available, but that doesn't mean that it's not very efficient compared to earlier models. It has a .62 Energy Factor, which means it meets the current NACEA regulations, which set a high bar for water heater efficiency overall.

Reliability and warranty

Excellent track record. This Rheem hot water heater is covered by an excellent warranty for a model in this price class -- nine years overall plus two years of in-home labor. While you'll find some lemons with any product, the XG40T09HE40U0 enjoys a very strong track record, and we didn't spot any pattern of complaints that might indicate a potential sore spot.

Uses of Solar Energy: How Solar Energy Can Help You Save Money and Make Your Life Easier

Solar electric energy is increasingly used worldwide both in well-developed and developing countries.

The main reasons for its popularity and various uses of solar energy are:
• Free and reliable – the sun shines everyday for all of us
• Clean and renewable – unlike other sources of energy, such as coal, oil and gas, which not only are not-renewable but severely impact the global climate
• Reduces the costs you pay to your local utility company and increases your energy independence
• Can increase the value of your house – due to the lowered costs of electricity consumption
• Can be financially beneficial – if you decide to buy a PV system, you will be eligible to rebates, government incentives, feed-in tariffs, tax credits, etc.

The most common uses of solar power are related to the conversion of solar energy to electricity thanks to solar panels based on photovoltaics.

Photovoltaics transform solar energy into direct current by using semiconductor materials capable of converting solar radiation into DC voltage and current.

Solar or photovoltaic panels (for example: RENOGY 150 WATT SOLAR PANEL ) are used both in home and business environment. Solar panels alone however cannot generate electricity that can be practically used. Therefore solar panels together with other building blocks or components are connected together in solar electric systems.

There are two main types of photovoltaic (solar electric) systems – connected to the grid and disconnected from the grid.

Grid-tied systems allow you to offset a part of or all of your electricity demand to photovoltaics thus reducing your electricity bills.

Here is what grid-tied solar electric systems do:
• Produce electricity
• Use electricity from the grid
• Export electricity to the grid

Grid-tied systems can be designed with or without battery backup. Most of grid-tied systems are without battery backup and are usually built in regions where power outages happen rarely and for short periods.
Grid-tied systems with battery backup are preferred in areas where power outages happen more often and by users for whom electricity outage is not an option even for short periods.

Certainly you use electricity from the grid when electricity generated by your PV system does not fully cover your household electrical consumption. Moreover if your photovoltaic generator produces more electricity than you consume, the ‘excess’ of electrical energy is exported to the grid, for which you get paid.

Grid-tied systems are less expensive and require less maintenance than off-grid systems.

An obvious disadvantage is that grid-tied systems shut down in case of power outage. This can be avoided by buying a grid-tied system with a battery backup option.

Grid-tied systems are attractive because:
• Are source of significant saving from electricity bills
• Satisfy user’s own energy needs
• Add value to the building
• Protect the environment
• Provide energy backup (for grid-tied systems with power backup)

Off-grid solar electric systems are not connected to utility grid. They are preferred in areas where utility interconnection is too expensive. It should be noted that off-grid systems are more expensive than grid-tied systems. Off-grid solar systems are typically provided with battery storage.

In cases of high daily electrical consumption often a hybrid system is preferred to purely photovoltaic system since it’s not economically beneficial to offset the whole electricity to be generated by the solar system only.

A hybrid system is actually a stand-alone solar electric system with an alternative power source added – wind generator or fuel generator.

Hybrid systems are preferred in cases where too high energy consumption and/or long periods of cloudy days require a too bulky battery bank which is expensive both to buy and to maintain.

Off-grid solar systems are attractive because:
• Are a reliable source of power
• Are practically unlimited in size – a stand-alone system could serve a single device or a couple of buildings with a complex electrical network
• Can be installed almost anywhere in the world
• Can be cheaper than connecting to the utility grid (if the utility grid connection point is located miles away)
• Can provide electricity to most household devices available

Here are the main applications of off-grid solar systems
• Small solar systems for household use in developing countries
• Schools and hospitals in developing countries
• Cooling for medical or veterinary use
• Solar systems for remote homes or summer villas in well-developed countries
• Power supply for telecommunication equipment
• Water pumps in remote areas, part of portable water supply systems
• Street infrastructure equipment – street lamps, bus station dashboards, parking meters, etc.
• Recreational vehicles
• Remote meteorological stations
• Backup of important business processes, powering vending machines, electrical publicity posters, etc.
• Transportation signaling – offshore navigation buoys, lighthouses, aircraft warning light structures, and increasingly in road traffic warning signals
• Powering environmental monitoring equipment and corrosion protection systems for pipelines, well-heads, bridges, etc.
• Remote buildings, such as schools, community halls, and clinics, can benefit from solar energy.

Certainly photovoltaics can be used also for heating and cooking. This is however not beneficial, since electrical heating devices are quite ‘power hungry’, i.e. they have a high consumption. Therefore a better scenario is to use heating devices based on alternative energy resources – gas and propane.

Special attention should be paid to solar thermal systems used for water heating. Such systems are similar to photovoltaics in using the renewable solar energy. Their principle however is different – they use sun’s heat rather than sunlight.

EERE Success Story—Real Estate Professionals Embrace Solar Power

As solar energy’s popularity continues to grow among homeowners, it’s changing the way people buy and sell homes. Because solar has been found to consistently add value to homes, real estate agents need a new way to fairly value solar homes and make sure house hunters can easily find key solar system ( for example: RENOGY SOLAR SUITCASE ) information. New data standards from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory will enable thousands of realtors in California to enter details about solar-powered real estate assets into real estate listings for the first time, providing millions of Americans the opportunity to easily buy and sell solar properties.

Without transparent information on a home’s solar energy system, such as the age and ownership details, it’s hard for buyers to make informed decisions. Andv, if the information is incorrect or missing, it can complicate real estate transactions and cause sellers to lose out on solar’s premium-boosting value. Adding uniform solar data fields into universally used real estate databases—called multiple listing services (MLSs)—is an easy way to prevent these issues from occurring.

With support from the SunShot Initiative, Berkeley Lab set out to create data standards for solar properties that can be used by the more than 700 MLSs around the country. Over the course of 6 months and several meetings, Berkeley Lab and its partners—the Real Estate Standard Organization, researchers, and practitioners in the real estate, appraisal, and solar industries—developed standards for accurately capturing key solar system characteristics in MLSs. Through a mutually beneficial and consensus-based process, the team developed a taxonomy for five fields to describe a solar system: size, age, ownership, output, and the source of the data.

Features such as a home’s square footage or heating and cooling have to be entered into the backend of an MLS database in order to “automatically populate” a set of options for real estate professionals. Entering solar information into MLSs that don’t include these solar data standards is a lot like answering a fill-in-the-blank “other” question on a survey. In these situations, it’s up to the user to find an appropriate place to enter solar data and add relevant details. Berkeley Lab’s efforts to create this new taxonomy provides a framework to automatically populate solar data for housing markets across the nation, making it even easier to buy and sell solar homes.

The first demonstration of this solar and real estate collaboration launched a year ahead of the project’s goal. In January 2017, the California Regional MLS (CRMLS) adopted power production fields, giving more than 80,000 realtors across California the ability to enter solar energy system data for the first time. Because the CRMLS is the largest MLS in the country and home to many solar properties—in some areas, solar adoption is as high as 20%—this MLS is setting an example for other regions across the country. There are already hundreds of solar property listings in the CRMLS, and listing services covering properties in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, and New Hampshire are all considering the new standards.

The new solar data standards ensure that real estate transactions remain secure and efficient, while also solidifying solar’s value in the real estate market. An enormous success for the growing solar industry, this collaboration demonstrates that when complementary industries embrace solar, both stand to benefit.

UN: Israel Discriminates Against Divorced Fathers, Children

New York, New York --- December 6, 2011 .... The UN, which has a long, documented history for bashing Israel at almost each and every opportunity, has come out today on behalf of divorced fathers and their children in Israel. It is unfortunate that thousands of loving, caring and responsible dads in Israel had to go to the UN to illustrate how blatant gender bias discrimination is under Israel law.

The UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights has declared that Israel discriminates against divorced fathers. That fathers in Israel who have gone through divorce often lose contact with their children solely because they are male. The United Nations has called upon Israel to cancel the Tender Years Clause that grants automatic custody to women for all children under six years of age. The UN has pointed out that the Jewish state, which is supposed to be well respected for its values when it comes to family, is said to be the last country in the world not to have canceled this legal clause.

Thousands of fathers in Israel are made into second class citizens as they are provided just a few hours a week to see their own children. Many can only see their children in a supervised center as a result of false charges being made against the men by their ex-wives. These criminal charges are never investigated by the court or by child welfare due to a lack of funding, making the fathers into "visitors" rather than full time dads. The fathers must find thousands of dollars to retain attorneys and forensic psychologists in order to clear their names, money for which the majority of dads in Israel do not have as a result of low wages and high taxes.

In the concluding remarks of meetings held in Geneva in November and December, the UN committee wrote that:

"The Committee is concerned that, in the case of a divorce, custody of children up to the age of six is always given to mothers, and that fathers are often required to pay child support awards that exceed their income, and if not that their freedom of movement is seriously curtailed. The Committee is concerned that divorced fathers often are required to visit their children in supervised visitation centers near me during their working hours, which leads to the accumulation of work absences and the risk of dismissal."

The UN in making this statement addresses the fact that as long as the father owes child support he is prevented from leaving the country, even if his work is international.

"The Committee recommends that the State party amend the Capacity and Guardianship Law so that custody of children up to the age of six is not always given to mothers, and ensure that child support awards do not lead to an inadequate standard of living for the father."

The UN in making the above statement addresses the law preventing and or limiting contact between father and child until the age of six. What is not stated here is that even after the age of six, family courts and child welfare departments from Tel Aviv, Ra'anana and Haifa to Jerusalem, Metulla and Eilat maintain this gender bias discrimination. Discrimination which often leads to PAS - Parental Alienation Syndrome where the mother poisons the child against the father and the father eventually gives up and walks away - leaving the child with no father role model.

The UN committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights comprises of independent experts and monitors the implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights by individual countries.

The UN committee heard testimony from representatives of the Israel Coalition for Children and Families, an Israeli group that fights for the rights of children and their fathers in divorce. Following the testimony, the experts posed questions to a 12-person delegation from Israel. A source on the committee said that the experts noted that there was a high suicide rate among divorced men in Israel, amounting to half of all suicides.

The divorced fathers from Israel also said that this was reportedly because family rights for divorced couples were very biased towards mothers and restricted access of men to children and the family home to a degree rarely seen in any other State, and that the situation for divorced fathers was "apparently hellish."

The UN asked if it was true that divorced fathers were not allowed to leave Israel until they had paid approximately 20 years of alimony. The Israeli delegation did not provide direct responses to these questions.

CCF was founded by Daniel Zer, a father who has not been able to see his own six-year-old son for over three years, allegedly because the child's mother does not want him to see him, and the social workers in Israel agreed with her that the child has no need for a father in his life.

The father filed a motion to the High Court and asked it to declare that Child Custody Services Seattle forbid the state from denying a child the right to family life. The High Court refused to declare that fathers have rights to see their children, based on international law.

Fathers 4 Justice Israel, another group of dedicated fathers which works with the Coalition for Children and Families, stated that fathers in Israel can carry M-16's in the IDF to protect the state, but are not allowed to carry their own children.

A spokesperson told the Israel News Agency that representatives of Fathers 4 Justice Israel had gone to Haiti after the 2009 earthquake to aid hundreds of children there in rebuilding orphanages, providing clean water and food and making certain that the children had electricity and clean beds to sleep in.

After risking their lives in Haiti, these fathers returned to Israel and where they were denied contact with their own children.

"The severe suffering that these fathers and their children go though cannot be measured," said J from Fathers 4 Justice Israel, who cannot use his real name as a result of gag orders that the secret family courts apply. "The emotional abuse that these fathers and their children are subjected to often leaves permanent scars. Many fathers commit suicide while the children's behavior remains greatly affected in terms of their being able to adjust to school, work, suffering from anxiety, depression and being able to create normal, healthy relationships."

"It's apparent that the Israel Ministry of Justice in Israel and Child Welfare departments simply do not care about the mental health of these fathers and their children. Hopefully, the UN can wake them up and place them in the spotlight for all global human rights organizations to see."
